Plans finally concrete for local favorite to build in town
Andy’s Frozen Custard is set to build a new location in Republic that will likely be in operation this summer.
The new-to-Republic outfit was announced by Republic City Administrator David Cameron at the Republic City Council meeting Jan. 12. The new Andy’s location will be built in the parking lot of the building formerly occupied by Meek’s along U.S. Highway 60.
All current buildings on the lot are expected to be razed.
Additionally, it was made public that Andy’s wants to have the new location ready in time for the 2021 Have-A-Blast Independence Day Celebration, which is scheduled to take place June 25.
City may build road for business
The reason for the formal announcement at the city meeting is that the council was asked to approve building a new road behind the Andy’s lot which would also open other lots to development. As it was a first reading, a vote was not taken on the matter, although it was expected to be decided at the Jan. 19 meeting.
Andy’s is the latest well-known business to open a location in Republic. Amazon announced in November that they will build a new fulfillment center, and Convoy of Hope is also building a 230,000 square foot distribution center in the city.
Further details on the new Andy’s location were not available. Media inquiries sent to Andy’s and the City of Republic had received no response as of press time.
Andy’s Frozen Custard is a regional frozen custard chain based in Springfield with 95 locations company wide.
