James R. Smirl

James R. Smirl 78, passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2026. He was born on Aug. 13, 1947, in Kansas City, to Kenneth Wayne and Daisy Pearl (Tipton) Smirl. On June 30, 1969, he married Linda Matney and they shared over 57 years together.


He faithfully served his country in the United States Army. After retiring, he worked for the City of Ash Grove for as long as his health allowed. 
He is survived by wife, Linda Smirl; children, Tina Strait and husband Steven, James Smirl and wife Melanie;  several grandchildren; great grandchildren; siblings, Chuck Smirl, Robert Smirl, Ricky Smirl, Donnie Smirl, Pam Camb, Judy Slazk, Paula Smirl.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Daisy Smirl.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield.
