Mary Katherine “Kay” Carr

Mary Katherine “Kay” Carr, of Billings passed away at home on Dec. 24, 2025. She was born on July 26, 1944, in Richmond, Calif., to Joel and Walsie (Bates) Marchant and was one of two children in the home.
She married Leon Smith and they had two children, Joanna and Johnny. She drove a school bus for the Republic school system for almost 35 years.
She married Jackie Carr and they enjoyed their retirement together until his passing in 2015.
She is survived by her son Johnny Smith, two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, her sister Barbara Murphy, a step-son Steve (Ellen) Carr, as well as other extended family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; daughter Joanna Marie Short; son-in-law Eric Short; and husbands, Leon Smith and Jackie Carr.
Her family received friends and family from 1-2 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 5, at Meadors Funeral in Republic. Funeral services followed at 2 p.m. She was laid to rest in Evergreen Cemetery by her late husband Jackie. Charities that he and Randee support include: St. Jude’s and Shriners Children’s Hospitals, Habitat for Humanity, The Wounded Warrior’s Project and Ozark Harvest.
