Republic School District families and employees,
It is with deep sadness that we write to share that Josie Johns, a student at McCulloch Elementary, passed away on July 10.
We wanted to share this news with you so each family has the opportunity to discuss it with their students at home in whatever way they feel is most appropriate.
Our hope is to provide information that may help children who are processing grief. We also want our school community to know that one of our families is experiencing an unimaginable loss and needs our love and support.
Below are common reactions that children experience when they are going through a traumatic event or are processing tragic news:
Restlessness, nervous behavior
Trouble concentrating
Difficulty sleeping, nightmares
“Clingy” behavior, fear of being alone
Asking questions over and over again
Remembering previous losses and events
We hold Josie’s loved ones in our thoughts during this incredibly difficult time.
