Pirates easily knock off Miller, run record to 18-3

Lady Pirates lose close one to powerhouse Miller Lady Cards; top Marionville
The Ash Grove boys’ and girls’ basketball teams both hosted Miller on Tuesday, Feb. 1, with the Pirates winning, 60-29 and the Lady Pirates falling, 41-33.
Boys
The Ash Grove boys’ team jumped out to an 18-3 first quarter lead and cruised from there.
“This was a really balanced attack by our guys,” said head coach Grant Williamson. “Miller tried to take away certain players and others stepped up and made plays. Now our focus turns to Marionville on Tuesday which is also Senior
Night.”
Brock Mooneyham paced the Pirates with 15 points, Sam Moreland added 14 points and Brady Nicholson ended the game with 12 points.
Ash Grove is now 18-3 on the season and were scheduled to host Marionville on Tuesday night before traveling to Stockton on Friday night.
Girls
The Lady Pirates solidly played Miller’s impressive girls’ team for the first three quarters of the game, even leading 27-25 into the fourth quarter, but were outscored 16-6 to lose the game by eight points.
Senior Khloe Moad led Ash Grove with nine points and Emma McClelland had seven points in the
loss.
The Lady Pirates are now 14-7 on the season after topping the visiting Marionville Lady Comets Monday night, 61-31.
