Richard Lee McConnell

Richard Lee McConnell, 76, of Wishart, passed away on April 26, 2026 in his home.

He was born on June 2, 1949 in Republic, the second son of Paul and Juanita (Fox) McConnell.

During college, he joined the Peace Corps and spent four years in Central America, including Honduras and Costa Rica. He returned to complete a master’s degree in agricultural economics, reflecting his lifelong love for agriculture.

He taught vocational agriculture and welding at Odessa High School for 13 years, then worked with the Polk County Soil and Water Conservation District for 17 years. He also traveled across the country teaching Bud Williams stockmanship and marketing alongside his wife, Tina, after they met in 2002.

He loved the outdoors and found joy in hunting, fishing, working with livestock, and the rhythms of farm life. His Christian faith guided his life, and he was known for making friends wherever he went.

He is survived by his wife, Tina Williams; his son, Garland McConnell; and his former wife, Teresa McConnell. He is also survived by his loving family, Jessica Jones and children Delilah (Mason), Bryce, Emma, Caris, and Axton; Justin Mallory (Calie) and children Nate and Joe; Jennifer Raymond; and Laura Avery (Stephen) and son Sheldon, a great-grandchild expected in June, and a niece, nephews, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Paul McConnell; and sons, John “Skip” McConnell and John Sheldon.

A memorial service was held at 1 p.m. on April 30 at First Christian Church in Bolivar, with time to visit with the family afterward.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Bolivar Area Soup Kitchen where he volunteered or Convoy of Hope.
