Republic man sentenced in federal court after Lawrence County Standoff

A Republic man has been sentenced to more than nine years in prison after a federal case involving a standoff with police.
 
Phillip Curtis, was in a standoff with authorities that lasted more than 8 hours.
 
A release from the U.S. Department of Justice states that Curtis, who had multiple prior convictions for robbery, domestic assault, possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a firearm, was sentenced to 110 months in prison. 
 
According to documents, authorities were dispatched to a property in Aurora after a report that Curtis, who had multiple active felony warrants, was trespassing. During an ensuing encounter with authorities, Curtis threatened to kill responding Barry County Sherriff deputies. 
 
Documents state that Curtis announced that he had a weapon and showed it to law enforcement through a window during a standoff. He was later taken into custody, and his firearm was found inside a dog food bag. 
 
The case was investigated by the FBI, the ATF and the Missouri Highway Patrol in addition to the Barry County Sheriff’s Office. 
 
The 52-year-old will serve nearly a decade for the crime followed by three years of supervised release.
