Alderman Welch wants answers regarding shipping container OK

During the Aug. 1 meeting of the Ash Grove Board of Aldermen, Ward 1 Alderman Brian Welch took the city to task for allowing a large shipping container to be placed in a resident's yard.
"I think this is bull, and I want that in the minutes," Welch assertively told City Clerk Melissa Mau. "The city should be held responsible for what is happening. The city needs to be held liable."
Despite the insistence from Mau and Alderman Troy Watts that the shipping container was allowed by city code, Welch wasn't having it. He added that multiple neighbors filed complaints about the matter but the complaints were never brought to the planning and zoning committee or the board of aldermen for review, which according to Welch is protocol. Mau didn't know who took the complaints or where they are currently, but she did seem confident they could be located.
"If I need to do something against the city as an alderman against the city I will," Welch said.
If the resolute demeanor of Welch maintains, the issue seems far from over.

- Post new speed limits signs at the beginning and ending of school zones.
- The board also honored the Masonic Lodge 100 with a resolution to convey gratitude from the city for the group's efforts in hosting the Sparks in the Park 2022 Fourth of July celebration with such success.
