Community members show support for aggies at annual calf fry
Some 200 attendees turned out for the perfect weather, food and entertainment at the second annual Ash Grove FFA Calf Fry at Ash Grove City Park, Saturday, June 4.
Festivities, which ran throughout the day, included a tractor parade, ag mechanics show, truck and tractor show, a calf fry (the frying and consumption of bull testicles), live music, a pie eating contest and a watermelon eating contest.
Between food sales and sponsorships, the fundraiser brought in $4,000 to the chapter.
"We greatly appreciate the tremendous support our community showed this weekend," said Ash Grove FFA advisor Nathan Isakson. "We're proud to say that the funds raised are being equally split between the David Tummons Dignity of Labor scholarship, Barry Trantham Be the Legend Scholarship, Ash Grove FFA Supporters and Alumni Adult Agriculture Education Association, and the Ash Grove FFA Chapter. We plan to utilize the funds that support both high school and college education while simultaneously preparing the next generation of leaders for successful careers through experience-based and service learning. Thank you to our community for making this happen and our sponsors for significantly reducing our overhead expenses. To see firsthand how our funds are used, find us on Facebook at Ash Grove FFA Chapter."
