Ash Grove R-4 buys neighboring house

This home at 606 East Prairie Lane, recently purchased by the Ash Grove School District, is bordered on its north side by the elementary parking lot and on its east side by the school bus lane. Two residential properties sit between the district office and the newly acquired real estate, which is currently being remodeled for school use.
To be used for tikes’ Buccaneer Bay, Parents As Teachers programs
The footprint of the Ash Grove Elementary campus grew last month as the Ash Grove Board of Education purchased an adjacent residential property at 606 East Prairie Lane for $181,000. The nearly third of an acre real estate includes a 1,453 square foot residence that is currently being retrofitted to house the district’s Buccaneer Bay childcare program and the Parents As Teachers program. The move into the house is expected to take place in January.
With the addition, music classes will be moved from the double-wide trailer back into the main building and the trailer will be removed once construction on the bond project begins in 2026.
Funds for the purchase came from the Martin Endowment, said Superintendent Shane Medlin.
“Thanks to the generosity of the Martin family, their endowment provides interest earnings yearly that can be used towards student scholarships, teacher professional development and district projects. These monies were utilized for the purchase of the 606 East Prairie property,” Medlin said.
