Click
Originally charged with shoplifting from Republic Walmart; charged in five cases, got probation
An Aurora man will be cooling his heels in the Greene County Jail for six months. Weylin Arthur Click, 31, received the sentence on Friday, Feb. 28, after he was found to have violated his probation in a 2022 shoplifting case.
According to the probable cause statement in the case, Click was originally charged after video surveillance footage in the Republic Walmart showed Click and another man entering the store on Jan. 7, 2022 (The other man is not being identified because there is no record of him being charged in the case). There, they opened a box of diapers and removed the contents. They then took a “Hart Tools: box set, removed the “spider tag”, placed it in the diaper box, went to the self-checkout lane, and paid for the diapers instead of the toolset before leaving the store and driving away in a black Ford coupe. According to the probable cause statement, the toolset “included a drill, battery pack, and other items.”
Click was identified by a citizen’s tip, combined with footage of his vehicle that partially showed his license plate. Data from a NICHE report confirmed that the vehicle the men left in belonged to Click.
According to the probable cause statement, Click admitted to the theft in a post-Miranda interview on March 18, 2022. He told investigators he stole the items because he wanted to get presents for his children and didn’t have any money.
Online court records show that Click pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of stealing on March 27, 2024, and was given a suspended execution of a 180-day sentence.
Arrested for possession of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia
It is unclear how Click violated his probation in the shoplifting case as police field reports are not public. However, Click was arrested on Oct. 25, 2024, after he was allegedly found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to the probable cause statement in that case, on Oct. 25, Republic Police officers were called to a business in Republic to check on the wellbeing of a customer, later identified as Click, who was reported to be acting erratically.
Click was arrested after it was determined he had active warrants out of Republic and Greene County. While those warrants were being confirmed, a police officer looked inside Click’s vehicle through the windows and saw a baggie similar to those used to store illegal substances near the console. The officer then searched the vehicle and found “several burnt pieces of foil commonly used for heating illegal substances, two more baggies, two short straws commonly used for inhaling illegal substances, and a small digital scale.”
An officer reported that he questioned Click in a post-Miranda interview, during which he said Click admitted to taking pills and claimed they were mostly “Hydrocodone.” He refused to say where he got the pills, but according to the probable cause statement, stated he mostly “inhales them.”
The officer also reported that the residue in one of the plastic baggies tested positive for fentanyl.
Click was formally charged with unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia on Thursday, March 13.
Click has extensive criminal history in Lawrence County, sentences suspended
Click, in addition to his stealing charge in Greene County, has an extensive criminal record in Lawrence County. He has been booked into the Lawrence County Jail six times between Oct. 5, 2023, and March 13, 2024, and has numerous criminal convictions.
According to online court records, on July 27, 2017, he pleaded guilty to second-degree burglary, unlawful possession of a firearm, and receiving stolen property. In that case, which was investigated by the Aurora- Marionville Police Department (AMPD), on Aug. 14, 2016, a Marionville resident reported that several valuables were stolen from his gun safe; he stated he believed Click had stolen the items.
An officer reported that he found two of the items, a pair of refrigerant gauges, at a pawn shop. He then spoke to Click. In a post-Miranda interview, Click claimed the valuables had been loaned to him so he could pawn them and bail his girlfriend out of jail. He later admitted that he didn’t ask for permission to take the items, but “figured it would be okay.”
Click was give three concurrent five-year prison sentences for the charges, but his sentences were suspended, and he received five years of probation. His probation was revoked in that case on Dec. 10, 2018, but his prison sentence was reduced by 409 days, the amount of time he was in “was in substantial compliance with CRISP.”
Click pleaded guilty to multiple charges in five cases in 2022 and 2023
In 2022 and 2023, charges were filed against Click in five separate cases.
- In the first case, he was stopped while driving on April 19, 2022. The officer who stopped him determined his driver’s license was suspended, and Click was also found to be in possession of four hydrocodone pills and a capped syringe. He was charged with operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and possession of a controlled substance.
- In the second case, on Sept. 13, 2022, a Lawrence County deputy sheriff saw Click drive a car with no license plates. As the deputy made a U-turn to intercept Click, he (Click) accelerated his vehicle and made a quick left turn onto a street. When the deputy approached the vehicle, he found it parked with the driver’s door open. Click was then located hiding in overgrown brush behind a residence. He was charged with resisting arrest and driving without a license.
- In the third case, on Oct. 18, 2022, Walmart asset protection associates reported that Click had stolen merchandise from the store and had trespassed on Walmart property. An AMPD officer located him nearby at a Murphy’s gas station; Click admitted to being in Walmart but denied stealing anything. A consent search of a vehicle in which Click was a passenger turned up a glass pipe next to his jacket. The pipe field tested positive for methamphetamine. Click was charged with first-degree burglary, possession of a controlled substance, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
- In the fourth case, on Sept. 18, 2022, Click entered the garden center at the Mt. Vernon Walmart with a pair of bolt cutters that he took from the store, cut a hole in the fence of the garden center leading out to the parking lot and unsuccessfully attempted to push merchandise through the opening before leaving. A Mt. Vernon police officer was provided with video footage of the incident, as well as a copy of a trespass notice given to Click in January of 2022. Click was charged with first-degree burglary, stealing, and property damage.
- In the fifth case, on Aug. 14, 2022, AMPD officers served a warrant at Click’s residence, where they found three small bags of methamphetamine, one bag of cocaine, two tablets, a jar of marijuana, several smoking pipes, used syringes, and burnt aluminum foil. They also found nine items of stolen Walmart merchandise with a combined value of $1,284.95. Click was charged in April of 2023 with stealing - $750 or more, possession of a controlled substance, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
On March 11, 2024, Click pleaded guilty to all of the charges in the five cases except for the burglary charge, which was dismissed as part of a plea agreement. In return for his guilty plea, he received either a suspended imposition of sentence or a suspended execution of sentence and two to five years of probation for each charge.
It was unclear why Click was given the plea bargain, or whether his latest alleged offense will have any impact on his probation in Lawrence County.
A media inquiry emailed to Darlene Parrigon, Lawrence County prosecutor, had received no response as of press time.
