CHARLES VIRGIL SMITH

Charles Virgil Smith, 83, passed away with his family by his side on Oct. 3, 2023, in Republic. He was born on Aug. 2, 1940, in Edmond, Okla.
He attended U.S. Grant High School in Oklahoma City, Okla. He was united in marriage to Carole Kay (Muller) on March 19, 1988.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army. 
He is survived by his wife, Carole; his children: Kelley Mills and Doug Blumhorst, Charles (Lisa) Smith, Larry Smith and Heidi Rowden, and Jana (Russ) Lafferty; sister, Katherine (Leroy) Milton; sister-in-laws, Anita Milz and Vicki Muller; brother-in-law, George deRappard; cousin, Mary Lou Shelton; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Ila J. Smith; son-in-law, James E. Mills; son-in-law, Randy Mantle; and mother-in-law, Madeline Muller.
A final salute by the Warriors Watch Riders will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 11, at 2 p.m. at Walnut Lawn Funeral Home, Ltd.  in Springfield. Following the final salute, he will be escorted to Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield, by the Warriors Watch Riders, where full military honors will be rendered at 3 p.m. and he will be laid to rest.
