While Ash Grove Mayor Caleb Smith stands near, Lyndon Smith, 15, reads an essay she wrote about her grandfather, Billy Don Ford, who served in the United States Navy during the Korean War.

Rev. Ike Porter, the guest speaker at the Veterans Memorial rededication, delivers his remarks. Porter, who was a soldier during Operation Iraqi Freedom, told the audience at the rededication about his experiences in war, how they impacted him after he returned home and how other veterans helped him to overcome his demons. Ash Grove officially rededicates new Veterans Memorial triangle
The city of Ash Grove held a rededication ceremony for its Veterans Memorial triangle on Walker Street on Friday, May 10. The event included the presentation of colors, music played by the Ash Grove High School Marching Band, remarks by various speakers, and more. Mayor Caleb Smith said the ceremony was held to draw attention to the improvements made on the memorial, as well as to pay tribute to the area’s veterans.
The memorial itself had several enhancements made to it. Two 15,000-pound slabs of marble displaying the emblems of the six branches of the United States Military had been installed, and a new layer of stone covered the memorial’s surface. Six new flagpoles were also added to the memorial, and the triangle itself had been repainted.
