GEORGE M. PECK

George M. Peck, 93, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 13, 2022 in Columbia, S.C. He and his wife Lou, who preceded him in death on Aug. 25, 2020, had previously resided in Republic, for 50 years.

Peck was born in Rogersville, and later enlisted in the United States Navy as a young man. He met his wife Sylvia Lou Nelson (Puyallup, Wash.), while she was serving in the United States Army, and they were married in 1966. After 25 years of naval service, Peck returned to Missouri with his young family. He was then employed by
Springfield City Utilities and would retire after 25 years of devoted service. George’s commitment to hard work and telling a good story were instilled in his son, daughter, and his four granddaughters--Michael T. and Mary Peck; Sutton and Reese, Columbia, S.C., and Sheila A. (Peck) and Shane Jones; Hannah and Holly, St. Louis. Peck is also survived by brother O’Dell Peck and wife Norma Lee (Pittman) of Republic, and many cousins, nieces and nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews.

Peck’s memorial service will be held graveside at 10 a.m. on June 10, 2023 at West Finley Cemetery–Fordland. Peck will be laid to rest with his beloved wife Lou in a joint memorial service with both receiving military honors.
