Host Ash Grove Pirates beat Pierce City Eagles in overtime

Led by Lathrop, Lady Pirates hand Pierce City Lady Eagles fourth loss of the season; look to Cassville contest
 
The Ash Grove boys and girls basketball teams both hosted Pierce City last week and both came home with victories.
The Pirates defeated the Eagles 51-50 in overtime on Friday, Jan. 30.
Ash Grove trailed 14-10 after the first quarter and 22-18 at the half. In the third quarter, the Pirates scored 11 points, but the Eagles hit for 12 points to increase their lead to 34-29. In the fourth quarter,  Ash Grove was able to pull even with Pierce City by outscoring them 14-9 to tie the game at 43-43. The Pirates outscored the Eagles 8-7 in the overtime period to win the game by one point    
Harison Thompson led Ash Grove with 12 points and Kyler Reece added 11 points in the win.
“This was a really gritty win for our guys,” said head coach Grant Williamson. “We never led until the last second of overtime, but when we needed plays made guys stepped up and made them.”
Ash Grove is now 11-7 on the season and were scheduled to host Miller last night and RUSH Sr. Home School tomorrow night before ending the week at Gloria Deo Academy.

Girls basketball
The Class 3, fourth ranked Lady Pirates beat Pierce City, 54-43 on Friday night.
The game was tied 10-10 after the first quarter before the Lady Pirates scored 13 points in the second quarter to finish the half with a 23-20 lead. A 15-point third quarter saw Ash grove begin to pull away in the game, as the Lady Pirates would extend their lead to 38-29 heading into the final quarter of play. In the fourth quarter, Pierce City scored 14 points, but it would not be enough, as the Lady Pirates added 16 points to their total to win the game by nine points.
Bristol Lathrop paced Ash Grove with 23 points and nine rebounds, Millison Sapp had 10 points, and Alivia Duitt ended the game with nine points and 10 rebounds.
Ash Grove is now 16-5 on the season and were scheduled to play Class 2, fourth ranked Miller last night and Cassville tomorrow night.
