New TR Fitness coming to Republic

By next spring, Republic residents may have a new option for working out. TR Fitness, a 24-hour gym and fitness center, expects to open a location in the city by then.
Michael Morgan, who owns the fitness chain with his wife, Samantha, said the new Republic gym would be on an acre-and-a-half lot located between the Domino’s Pizza and the now-closed Tiger Town Carwash.
“We are going through the phase where they're telling me that we are going to be turning our plans over to the city in the week or two,” he said.
Morgan said that if all goes according to plan, construction on the new TR Fitness would start in a couple of months.
“I’m hoping, by the end summer, to start construction, he said, “but we'll see how that goes.”
If work on the new TR Fitness begins on schedule, Morgan added, the fitness center would be operational “between Jan. 1 and March 1.”
TR Fitness, Morgan said, would be a flexible fitness option for Republic residents.
“We’ll have 24-hour access to the fitness center along with tanning beds free of charge, an infrared sauna, and group classes,” he said.
In the gym, Morgan said, the workout equipment will include “treadmills, ellipticals, machines, CrossFit weight equipment (and) free weights.” The sort of group classes available, he added, would depend on the area, but some of the possibilities he mentioned included “Zumba, Pilates, yoga yogalates, and some various straight-pipe classes.”
Republic’s TR Fitness, Morgan said, would be the fitness chain’s ninth location; they currently have operations in Mt. Vernon, Aurora, Willard, Mountain Grove and Branson, among others. The chain adds two locations per year.
“Any person that is a member of (one) location is a member of all of them,” he said, adding that there are no contracts or signup fees.
