Willard Lady Tigers win three games last week, boys defeat Joplin and Neosho
The Willard High School girls basketball team played three games last week, winning all three games.
On Friday, Feb. 20, the Lady Tigers made the trip to Springfield to take on Hillcrest and won the game 60-56.
Willard trailed 16-14 in the first quarter but an 18-point second quarter led the Lady Tigers to tie the game, 32-32 at the half. In the third quarter, Willard outscored Hillcrest 12-11 to take a one point, 44-43 lead into the final quarter of play.
Willard scored 16 points in the fourth quarter to win the game by four points.
Kennidy Keller led Willard with 18 points and Elise Murray added 17 points in the win.
The Lady Tigers traveled to Joplin on Thursday, Feb. 19 and defeated the Lady Eagles by 30 points, 61-31.
Willard hosted Neosho on Monday Feb. 16 and dispatched the Lady Wildcats with an easy 75-29 victory.
The Lady Tigers led 22-11 after the first quarter and 43-15 by halftime. A 23-point third quarter gave Willard an insurmountable 66-21 lead in the game. In the fourth quarter with a running clock and the bench emptied Willard scored their final nine points of the game.
Harper Floyd paced Willard with 18 points and Addyson Smith ended the contest with 16 points.
The Lady Tigers are now 15-9 and were scheduled to play their final two games of the regular season at home against Republic last night and Carthage on Friday night.
Boys basketball
The Willard High School boys basketball team defeated Joplin in Joplin on Thursday, 64-53 and Neosho at home on Tuesday, Feb. 17, 53-50.
The Tigers are 12-11 on the season and were scheduled to play against Republic last night and Carthage on Friday night to close out the regular season.
