High speed chase on I-44 ends in arrest

An ordinary Monday afternoon in Lawrence County quickly turned lively when a Uhaul van, stolen from Springfield, came barreling down I-44 with police in pursuit.

Lawrence County Sheriff Brad DeLay said the incident began when when a Greene County Sheriff’s deputy spotted the absconded auto and attempted to pull the vehicle over. The van driver didn’t comply and the chase was on. Once out of Greene County, Lawrence County deputies picked up the interstate pursuit and deployed spike strips. The driver managed to avoid the first two strips, but struck the third strip which rendered the rig compromised with two shredded tires around mile marker 34.

At that point, the driver—a white male—decided enough was enough, slowed the vehicle to a stop and surrendered without any further incident. Greene County officers took custody of the dangerous driver, whose name has yet to be released. Also assisting in the chase and capture was the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
