Originally derailed by COVID outbreak, celebration revival set for next month

Pilgrim’s Rest Baptist Church’s 150th anniversary celebration, which was originally scheduled to take place in October but was canceled due to a COVID outbreak, has been rescheduled. The celebration will now take place as part of a revival which will last from Friday, Dec. 3 through Sunday, Dec. 5.
Cindy Brown, one of the organizers of the celebration, said the church will have services starting at 6:30 p.m. on both Friday, Dec. 3 and Saturday, Dec. 4. David Brown, a former pastor at Pilgrim’s Rest, will speak on Friday night while Trent Manning, also a former pastor at Pilgrim’s Rest, will speak on Saturday Night.
On Sunday, Dec. 5, the church will host a performance by Potter’s Wheel, a bluegrass gospel group out of Lebanon, followed by a potluck dinner. At 6 p.m., the church’s history will be presented, followed by a revival service at 6:30 p.m.
According to the church’s 150th Anniversary program, Pilgrim’s Rest Baptist Church was organized on Dec. 16, 1871 by six people: William and Martha Gilmore, James and Martha Powell, and William W. and Almeda Scraggins. The Rev. James Hill was the church’s first pastor, and the church met in a series of community school houses until its present building was constructed; it was not immediately clear when the church building was completed.
Pilgrim’s Rest Baptist Church is located at 23093 Lawrence 2020, about one mile east of Lawrenceburg.
