Republic councilman Deichman, 71, dies

Jim Deichman
A Republic City Council member, Ward 4, since 2017 and former mayor pro-tem, Jim Deichman passed away in his home last week at the age of 71. Deichman had been dealing with health issues recently, but was otherwise in fine spirits at the latest council meetings.
Republic Mayor Matt Russell issued a statement regarding the loss of his fellow council member.
"The passing of someone like Jim Deichman is a huge loss to the citizens of Republic," Russell said. "He was a kind and thoughtful man that took his role on city council very seriously. He was invested in seeing our community grow, but in the right way. He will be missed as a caring voice on council, but more importantly as our friend."
As separate statement from the city of Republic listed his activity while on the council.
"He was a dedicated council member serving a term as Mayor Pro Tem and as a member on various special ad-hoc committees. He also assisted in the monthly financial outside review and was always helping out where he could. Through his dedicated service and commitment to our great city, Mr. Deichman made a significant impact on the Republic community."
A service for Deichman was held the afternoon of Friday, June 3, at Meadors Funeral Home, Republic.
