City of Republic honors late councilman

As Republic City Council members Gerry Pool and Garry Wilson look on, Mayor Matt Russell presents a proclamation to Carolyn Booher in honor of her late brother Jim Deichman, who was a member of council at his passing May 28.
June 7, 2022 Jim Deichman Remembrance Day
During a somewhat somber meeting of Republic City Council Tuesday, June 7, Mayor Matt Russell proclaimed June 7, 2022 Jim Deichman Remembrance Day, in honor of Council Member Jim Deichman who unexpectedly passed away May 28 at the age of 71.
"Where as Council Member Deichman was committed to the citizens and staff of the City of Republic, served a term as Mayor Pro Tem, served on ad hoc committees, as well as conducting monthly oversight reviews of the city's financials…" Russell read from the proclamation. "Whereas staff and citizens are grateful for the contribution and commitment demonstrated by Council Member Deichman during his time on Council and as a citizen of the City of Republic."
Receiving the honor and plaque was Deichman's sister, Carolyn Booher, who thanked the council for the part they played in Deichman's life.
"Thank you so much. … I just want to thank the city for all they did," Booher said. "He loved his job and he loved his city more than anything. I appreciate all you guys did for him. It made his life a whole lot fuller and he loved it."
Members of council, as well as Russell and city administrator David Cameron, shared personal thoughts of praise and appreciation for Deichman's efforts while on the council.
Also during the meeting
The council voted 6-0 to pass an ordinance approving the final plat of the Mason Ridge Phase 1 subdivision. The plat legally divides 9.7 acres of land into 26 residential lots and includes the dedication of right-of-way, utility and storm water easements. The final plat includes approximately 1,702 linear feet of street and 1,600 linear feet of sidewalk.
The build is located on the south side of East Miller Road, at its east end.
Billing adjustments
The board also voted 6-0 in favor of absorbing a utility billing error by the city of approximately $147,000, instead of pursuing the correct amount owed by residents. The mistake was chocked up to a software error that has since been corrected by the billing department.
