Dr. Ladd coming back to Willard

Ladd
Longtime administrator leaving Mt. Vernon schools for Willard return
A former Willard educator will be returning to the district at the start of the 2023-24 school year in a new role. Dr. Josh Ladd is coming back to Willard R-II as the Assistant Superintendent of Academics.
Ladd has been an educator for over 20 years, holding positions in Humansville, Willard and Mt. Vernon. During his career he has been a teacher, director, assistant principal and principal. His academic credentials include a bachelor’s degree in education from Southwest Baptist University, a master’s of education from William Woods, and educational specialist and educational doctorate degrees, both earned at Lindenwood University.
Ladd is coming to Willard from Mt. Vernon R-V, where he was the high school principal for seven years. According to a press release from the Willard School District, Ladd implemented the JAG and alternative education programs at Mt. Vernon. At Willard, he “played an integral role in the development and implementation of the SUCCESS Program,” the release stated.
The release also stated that Ladd will be tasked with many important duties in his new role.
“As Assistant Superintendent of Academics, Dr. Ladd will be responsible for overseeing all
academic programs in the Willard School District, including curriculum development,
instructional strategies, and assessment programs,” it stated. “He will work closely with school principals, teachers, and staff to ensure that all students receive a high-quality education that prepares them for success in college, career, and life.”
Ladd said he is looking forward to his new role at Willard.
“I couldn’t be more excited to return to Willard and rejoin this amazing group of educators,” he said in the press release. “I look forward to working together with our staff, students, and families to continue
cultivating a culture of academic excellence and lifelong learning.”
Himself the son of an educator, Ladd credited his mother’s influence for his decision to go into education.
“After watching my mom progress through the ranks of public education to the level of administration, I knew that this was a career that I would enjoy,” he said in response to a media inquiry. “This led me to pursue a bachelor’s degree in education. Eventually, I was encouraged to advance into an administrative role.”
Dr. Eric Wilkens, superintendent of the Willard R-II School District, said Ladd would be a welcome addition to the district’s administration.
“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Ladd back to Willard Public Schools,” Wilkens was quoted as saying in the district’s press release. “His extensive experience and expertise will be a tremendous asset to our district. We look forward to working with him to continue to provide our students with the best possible education.”
