RONALD DEE GOODMAN

Ronald Dee Goodman, 90, passed away on Oct. 11, 2023. He was born on Oct. 15, 1932 in Dixon, the son of Maude and Jamie Goodman.
He joined the US Navy and served aboard the USS Manchester during the Korean War from 1952 to 1956.
In 1961, he married Virginia Connor, a union that lasted for 62 years.
He was a St. Louis firefighter until 1969, when the family moved to Springfield Missouri, eventually settling in Billings. He became a landscaper, specializing in building waterfalls and rock gardens. He began working in the Water Department of City Utilities of Springfield, retiring in 1996. He returned to landscaping, making custom stained glass stepping stones and concrete benches, until retiring in 2021, at the age of 88.
An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed teaching Hunter Safety for the Department of Conservation, and wrote a book about hunting in Missouri. He also loved singing in the choir of Ridgecrest Baptist Church, and taught Sunday School to adults and AWANA to kids for many years. He was a member of the Country Gospel Music Association.
He is survived by his children: Kathy, Karron, Kraig and Jason; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia; his parents; his sisters, Lois Parker and Betty Feldhaus; and his son, Jason.
Services were held on Monday, Oct. 16, at Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Springfield with full military honors preformed at Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
Care was entrusted to Walnut Lawn Funeral Home DeGraffenreid-Wood Crematory.
