Ash Grove thief originally convicted of stealing, trying to sell 28-foot gooseneck trailer online
An Ash Grove woman was booked into the Greene County Jail after allegedly violating the terms of her probation. Sara Graves, 37, was arrested by Ash Grove Police on Saturday, Nov. 11.
Graves originally pleaded guilty on Jan. 25 of this year to a charge of stealing by receiving stolen property. According to the probable cause statement in the case, on Aug. 5, 2019, the owner of a gooseneck trailer reported to Springfield Police that it had been stolen; he also said he wanted to press criminal charges.
The owner had posted on Facebook that his trailer was stolen and received word that it was at another location in Springfield. Officers went to the location on Aug. 7 and confirmed that the trailer was at that location. The trailer was also determined to have been stolen and released to the owner.
Springfield Police received an email which contained a post by Sara LaNelle (Graves) where she was trying to sell a 28-foot gooseneck trailer, which included pictures of the trailer. The pictures of the trailer in the post matched photos of the trailer given to police by the owner.
In a post-Miranda interview, Graves admitted to attempting to sell the trailer, without title and without permission from the trailer’s owner. She said that at first, she though her mother-in-law owned the trailer, and later believed her husband owned it. Neither person told her that they owned the trailer.
Charges were filed against Graves on Oct. 20, 2021. She pleaded guilty to the charge of theft and was given a suspended imposition of sentence and five years of probation. She was also ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $2,350.
It was not immediately clear how Graves allegedly violated her probation. The field report in the case is not available for public viewing.
Online records show that Graves posted a $1,000 surety bond on Nov. 17. She is scheduled to appear in court next on Thursday, Dec. 14, for a probation violation hearing.
