Spring storms lead to roof repairs at Bois D’Arc Elem.

Following extensive damage by not one but two spring storms, repairs are nearing completion on the roof at Bois D’Arc Elementary. The April 29 storm blew off the southern half of the roof, leading to extensive water damage to the gym, said Ash Grove School Superintendent Shane Medlin. That incident was followed two months later by a June 29 storm that damaged much of the remaining roof.
Kirberg Roofing is in the process of finishing repairs to the roof at a cost of $103,255, which will be covered by insurance.
The renewed roof was slated for repair as part of the upcoming school bond construction, and three sections still need to be replaced. Removing the replaced portion from the list will now free up money for other upgrades, which have yet to be determined, said Medlin. The district is currently pursuing bids to replace the entire gym floor and repair walls and ceiling that were damaged by the severe weather.
Medlin also reported that the extreme weather and subsequent leaking were also felt at Ash Grove, where the varsity gym floor received a repair and refinish. Lightning strikes also affected the lighting at the baseball field, electrical and camera server issues at the greenhouse and the football field area.  (Photo by Ryan Squibb)
